Real-Time Status

The printers supported by the Impressario Server product report detailed, up-to-the-second status. The printer status is indicated by desktop printer icons and by the PrintStatus tool.

IRIS Impressario includes a true Adobe PostScript interpreter which uses the speed of your Silicon Graphics workstation CPU to perform host-based raster image processing (RIP). This powerful interpreter can process images at over 250 pages per minute on a 16 MB R4000 Indy - up to 100 times faster than PostScript interpreters built into printers. Improve your printing performance by simply upgrading your system hardware. You are no longer limited by your printer's processing speed, memory, compatibility, or networking requirements.

Scanning with Impressario is also remarkably fast. The open scanning architecture of Impressario easily keeps up with the fastest color scanners.

Additional Fonts

The Impressario Server product adds an additional 22 Adobe Type 1 fonts to the base 13 fonts bundled with the IRIX operating system. All fonts include Adobe Font Metric (AFM) files.

Graphical Scanning Tool

The Impressario Server product provides support for a number of scanners. In addition, graphical tools are provided to install and operate these scanners. The gscan tool provides a graphical interface for performing scans. The tool provides interactive selection of scan region and parameters, allows scanning from the screen or from a file, and provides graphical access to scanner-specific options.
