SoftNet Utilities is a NetWare server emulator for UNIX platforms. It provides three types of IPX-based services: 1) without inhibiting existing TCP/IP or other native capabilities, UNIX platoforms can aoso emulate Novell 2.2, 3.11 and 3.12 NetWare servers to PC clients, 2) DOS terminal emulation and 3) bidirectional UNIX/Novell printer sharing. NetWare PC's load only one protocol (IPX) to access the UNIX platoform's resources as a Novell client as well as conduct terminal sessions to the UNIX hosts; TCP/IP is not required at the PC. Administering SoftNet Utilities is performed using existing PC-based NetWare admin utilities (i.e. syscon, pconsole, etc.). To clarify, SoftNet Utilities runs as a background process on the UNIX platoform and is administered on the Novell side as a standard NetWare server.
