G++ enables object-oriented, native and cross platform development hosted on over 15 platforms, including SGI's IRIS. The availability of G++ for cross platform development further enables portability of the GNU toolset, targeting the MIPS R3000 and R4000 family of microprocessors. G++ generates machine code directly, bypassing an intermediate translation into C. G++ provides efficient, meaningful symbolic debugging information and uses the same back-end and highly-optimizing code-generator used by the GNU C compiler. G++ has been tracking the ANSI C++ draft since 1990 and is expected to be ANSI-conforment when the draft becomes an ANSI standard.
